Former AIADMK MP and comedian S.S. Chandran died on Friday. He was 69. Mr. Chandran suffered a heart attack when he returned to his room in Mannargudi after attending a party meeting in Muthupettai in Tiruvarur. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, sources said, but was declared "dead-on-arrival". His body was brought to the city on Saturday morning.

He has acted in over 700 films, having started performing at the age of 15. Among his more popular films are: Sahadevan Mahadevan, Thangamani Rangamani, Paati Sollai Thattathey, and Kathanayagan. Mr. Chandran has also produced four films.
