India get three gold, but dope shame rocks contingent

New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) India's Achanta Sharath Kamal and Subhajit Saha bagged the men's doubles table tennis gold, another two came through boxers Suranjoy Singh and Manoj Kumar, but race walker Rani Yadav brought shame by testing positive for a banned steroid in the Commonwealth Games today.

The penultimate day of the Games opened with the shocking revelation that 20km woman walker Rani had tested positive for prohibited anabolic agent 19-Norandrosterone to deflate the euphoria surrounding the contingent after yesterday's stellar show in athletics and men's hockey.

Yadav, who finished sixth in 1 hour, 42 minutes, 54 seconds in the 20km walk held on October 9 on Central Delhi streets, was provisionally suspended and a hearing was scheduled later in the day.

Even as India were recovering from the dope scandal, England sneaked past them in the medals table to stand second behind Australia.

India made the first entry into the hockey final of the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.

India defeated England 5-4 on penalty strokes in a stunning semi-final comeback on Tuesday to move into a Commonwealth Games field hockey final against defending champion Australia.  A large crowd of 19,000 supporters went wild and gave the team a standing ovation when goalkeeper Bharat Kumar stopped Glenn Kirkham's third penalty stroke and Shivendra Kumar netted the final one. 

 India 3 (Sarvanjit Singh 2, Vikram Pillay) beat England 3 (Ashley Jackson 2, Simon Mantell) HT 1-1.Tie breaker: India 5(Sarvanjit Singh, Vikram Pillay, Sandeep Singh, Arjun Halappa, Shivendra Singh);England 4 ( Richard Smith, Richard Mantell, Ashley Jackson, Harry Martin) Total 8-7.

And in another match World champion Australia beat New Zealand 6-2 in the earlier semi-final. On 14th October at 11.30 am India and Australia lock their horns for the Gold medal. Dont miss it. We wish them all the very best, make the history.

Indian athletes set JNS track ablaze, win 5 medals

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) India completed an unprecedented success in athletics events in the Commonwealth Games here as they collected one gold and four bronze today to take their medal count to 12.

Indian women's 4x400m relay team added another gold to the one won yesterday by discus thrower Krishna Poonia as medals rained for the home country in front of a cheering near-capacity crowd at the Jawaharalal Nehru Stadium.

The men's and women's 4x100m relay teams, triple jumper Renjith Maheswary and javelin thrower Kashinath Naik added a bronze each. After today's events, only men and women's marathon remained in the athletics competition. In terms of number of medals won, it turned out to be the most productive day for India.

First gold for India! | CWG Delhi 2010

Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang win gold medal in Pairs 10m air rifle. First gold for India!
Bindra-Narang are the defending CWG champions in this event. They shot a 598 to win gold today  at the Dr Karni Shooting Range. Shooting was the India's strength and the pair did exceptionally well. Received reports that the Bindra-Narang combine have created a CWG record.

After having a title drought on the opening day of competitions in the Commonwealth Games yesterday, India opened its gold medal account by her shooters with pride and joy.

Update:  Third gold for India brough by Ravinder Singh in wrestling  60 kg category. An awesome performance were he dominated his opponent.

Golden hopes of INDIA in CWG 2010

India is looking to finish with top position in the medal standing. Among 619 member strong Indian contingents here are some of the athletes are golden hopes of india. With their gold medals it will be easy for India to climb over the medal standing.
